Missed Opportunity

I recently sent a reprint to a Canadian magazine called Storyteller, which just came back rejected, but attached to the rejection was a note regarding the last story I sent them. I'd never heard back and assumed it to be rejected, but apparently they tried contacting me numerous times, by post, e-mail, and telephone. I sent the story a few months before moving, so I can only assume that their initial letter arrived just after my 6 months of mail forwarding ran out. My phone number changed during the move as well. As for the e-mail, I'm guessing it went directly to my spam folder on account of me not having Storyteller listed in my contacts (they only accept subs via snail-mail). I'd really like to be published in Storyteller. It's a cool mag. So, yeah, that bites. The current letter also said, "Make yourself available before you send us anything else." So what's the protocol here? Should I write a letter of apology and attach it to my next sub?
