nightmare

Jan. 8th, 2008 | 04:27 pm

I woke up screaming this morning, or rather trying to scream. The sounds coming out of my mouth were more like agonized moans. Anna was shaking me, saying, "Easy! Easy! You're okay! You're okay!" to which I replied, "Holy fuck that was scary! Holy fuck that was scary!" Then I lay there staring at the ceiling for a while, my heart rate gradually slowing. As is usually the case with nightmares that truly unnerve me, I didn't actually see anything in the dream. I sensed it and, in this case, felt it in the form of pressure against a cigarette I was holding. It was a repulsive pressure, like that of opposing magnets. That came after the power went out and a deep rumble sounded from the basement. I was not able to get back to sleep afterwards. Nor was Anna.

GlassFire + Payne in the TOC

Jan. 8th, 2008 | 07:48 pm

I received my contributor copy of GlassFire Anthology this week and my first impression (I’m only three stories and three poems into it) is that the editors, Kristi Brooks & Matt Randall, have put together a very solid and very diverse collection. The early works had me alternately longing for my youth and laughing out loud, so I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next. As a bonus, another of the contributors was nice enough to contact me via e-mail a couple of days ago to tell me how much she enjoyed my story “Souls on Display.” Unexpected feedback like that is the cat’s ass. Reminds me why I’m in this crazy biz. :) If you're interested in purchasing a copy of the anthology (and dammit, you should be!), just click on the stylish banner. :)

In other writing news, I was happy to find out yesterday that I’ll be sharing a TOC with friend [info]marshall_payne  later this year! In the June issue of Niteblade, to be specific. Looking forward to it!
